Understanding Enterprise Value in Propel #
One of the foundational decisions business owners make when using Propel is whether they want to manage the business through the lens of enterprise value.
Enterprise value goes beyond simply tracking:
- revenue
- profit
- growth
Instead, it evaluates the business as an asset and measures:
What is the business actually worth?
This approach helps owners better understand the health, scalability, and long-term value of the organization.
The Three Core Tabs #
Inside Propel, the Company Goals area is organized into three sections:
- Performance
- Health
- Value
Each section works together to provide a complete picture of business performance and enterprise value growth.
Value Tab #
The Value tab focuses on the long-term enterprise value goal of the business.
Example:
- Target Enterprise Value: $20 Million
- Target Year: 2030
This is not a revenue target.
It is the estimated value of the company as an asset.
What the Value Tab Tracks #
The Value page allows users to:
- Set a long-term enterprise value target
- Set the timeline to achieve it
- Adjust projected growth rates
- Adjust projected revenue targets
- View enterprise value growth over time
Changing:
- growth percentages
- revenue assumptions
…automatically recalculates related projections.
Enterprise Value Charts #
The Value page also visualizes:
- enterprise value growth trajectory
- revenue growth
- profit multiple trends
This helps business owners understand:
- where they are today
- where they want to go
- the gap between current and desired value
Revenue & Profit Metrics #
At the top of the page, Propel displays:
- trailing 12-month revenue
- trailing 12-month profit
- estimated enterprise value
- current health score
- maximum revenue multiple
These calculations are based on:
- company inputs
- assessment results
- financial information entered into the platform
The estimated enterprise value shown is:
an estimate, not a formal business valuation.
Cash & Debt Adjustments #
Users can also enter:
- cash on hand
- company debt
This helps create a more accurate estimate of transaction value.
Health Tab #
The Health tab measures operational business health using:
- 24 value drivers
- organized into 6 key business categories
Each category contains:
- 4 assessment questions
Health Score System #
Businesses complete a self-assessment that generates:
- an overall health score
- category-level scoring
Color coding helps identify strengths and weaknesses:
- Green = strong
- Yellow = caution / improvement opportunity
- Red = needs attention
Updating the Health Score #
As businesses improve operations through:
- initiatives
- process improvements
- leadership development
- strategic planning
…they can revisit and update their Health assessment.
Users can:
- adjust scores
- document improvements
- track progress over time
This creates a historical record of operational maturity growth.
Relationship Between Health & Enterprise Value #
A core concept inside Propel is that:
stronger operational health increases enterprise value.
As businesses improve:
- systems
- leadership
- recurring revenue
- operational efficiency
- customer diversification
- team structure
…the company becomes more valuable as an asset.
Performance Tab #
The Performance tab focuses on:
- revenue
- profit
- planning
- actual performance
This section tracks:
- annual plans
- monthly performance
- actual vs. projected numbers
Performance data may also sync with systems like:
- QuickBooks
to align financial reporting.
