How to Add a Goal #
Creating goals in Propel allows you to track performance against key metrics and align your team around measurable outcomes.
Step 1: Navigate to Goals #
- Click Goals in the left-hand navigation bar
- You will land on the Goals dashboard
By default, the dashboard shows:
- Goals you own
- Goals that are shared with you
You can adjust this view by clearing or applying filters.
Step 2: Add a New Goal #
- Click Add Goal in the top right-hand corner
- Complete the required fields
Step 3: Configure Goal Details #
Basic Information #
- Goal Name – Clear, descriptive title
- Year – The time period for the goal
Calculation Type #
- Sum – Aggregates values over time (e.g., total revenue)
- Average – Calculates an average across time periods
Metric Type #
Choose how the goal is measured:
- Currency
- Number
- Percentage
Success Criteria #
Define what success looks like:
- Above Goal – Higher values indicate success (e.g., revenue)
- Below Goal – Lower values indicate success (e.g., expenses, churn)
Guidance is provided within the form to help select the correct option.
Step 4: Set Data Source #
You can determine how the goal is populated:
- QuickBooks – Automatically pulls financial data
- Calculation – Manually defined or calculated within the system

Step 5: Assign Ownership and Access #
Owner #
- Defaults to you
- Can be reassigned to another user
Editors #
- Users who can update or modify the goal
Viewers #
- Users who can see the goal but cannot edit
Step 6: Save the Goal #
- Click Submit
- The goal will appear on your Goals dashboard
