Demo Companies: Overview and How to Use Them #
The Demo Company feature allows Firm Admins and Firm Users to demonstrate Propel Your Business using fully built-out, realistic company instances. Demo companies are designed for use with prospects and existing clients during sales conversations, onboarding, or training sessions.
Who Has Access to Demo Companies #
- Firm Admins
- Firm Users (Advisor seats and Portfolio Manager seats)
- You must see the navy navigation bar on the left-hand side
If you do not see the navy navigation bar:
- You are not a firm user
- Contact the person who introduced you to Propel Your Business or log a support ticket
Where to Find Demo Companies #
- Log in to Propel Your Business
- Confirm the navy navigation bar is visible
- Click Portfolio
- Select Demo
This section contains all demo companies that have been launched from your firm templates.
How Demo Companies Work #
- Demo companies are temporary
- Each demo company expires automatically after 72 hours
- Any changes made during a demo session do not save
- Once expired, the demo company reverts back to its original template
This ensures every demo starts from a clean, consistent baseline, even if you add meetings, goals, wins, or discussion topics during a live demonstration.
Why Demo Companies Expire #
During demonstrations, users often:
- Add meeting content
- Enter wins or discussion topics
- Modify goals or dashboards
Expiration prevents these demo-specific changes from permanently altering your demo environment, giving you a fresh experience for every prospect or client.
Demo Templates Explained #
Demo companies are launched from Demo Templates, which your firm controls.
To access templates:
- Go to Settings
- Select Companies
- Click Templates
These templates act as your master demo environments.
Using Pre-Built Framework Templates #
Propel provides several pre-built demo frameworks aligned to common firm types, such as:
- Fractional CFO
- Fractional Sales
- Other professional service models
These templates are:
- Fully built out
- Ready to use immediately
- Designed to reflect how your firm works with clients
Best Practice #
Use a pre-built framework as a starting point, then customize it to match your firm’s language, structure, and methodology.
Duplicating and Customizing a Demo Template #
- Select a framework template (for example, Fractional CFO)
- Click Duplicate
- Wait while the system copies the full company instance
- This may take 30–60 seconds
- Refresh if needed
If the Health and Value Assessment or dashboards are not visible yet, the template is still loading.
Editing a Demo Template (Master Copy) #
When you open a demo template directly from Settings → Companies → Templates, you are editing the master template.
You can:
- Rename the template
- Edit wording and content
- Customize goals, meetings, dashboards, and structure
- Duplicate the template to create variations
- Delete templates you no longer need
Changes made here are saved and will apply to all future demos launched from this template.
Launching a Demo Company #
- Go to Portfolio
- Click Launch Demo
- Select the demo template you want to use
- Click Launch
The demo company will begin generating in the background.
- You may close the modal and continue working
- A notification will appear when the demo is ready
- Some data (health score, next meeting) may take a few minutes to populate
Refreshing the page after a short wait will usually show the completed demo.
Using Demo Companies in Real Conversations #
Once launched, demo companies function just like real companies:
- You can run meetings
- Show dashboards and goals
- Walk through workflows
- Demonstrate outcomes
Remember:
- All demo changes disappear after 72 hours
- The original template remains untouched
Key Reminders #
- Demo companies expire after 72 hours
- Demo instance changes do not save
- Template edits do save
- Templates are fully controlled by the firm
- Pre-built frameworks are the fastest way to get started
