Updating a Roadmap Item Due Date #
Roadmap item due dates can be updated at any time to reflect changing priorities, timelines, or project requirements.
To change a roadmap item’s due date, you must have permission to edit the roadmap item or the initiative it belongs to.
If you do not have edit access, you will be unable to make changes to the due date.
Method 1: Edit the Roadmap Item #
The most common method is to edit the roadmap item directly.
To update the due date:
- Locate the roadmap item.
- Click the three dots on the right side of the roadmap item.
- Select Edit.
- Update the Target Due Date or End Date field.
- Save your changes.
Method 2: Update the Date from the Roadmap List #
For quick adjustments, you can edit the date directly from the roadmap item list.
Simply:
- Locate the roadmap item.
- Click on the displayed due date.
- Select a new date.
- Save the update.
This allows for faster schedule adjustments without opening the full roadmap item.
Method 3: Update from the Collaboration View #
Due dates can also be updated from within the roadmap item’s collaboration workspace.
To do this:
- Open the roadmap item.
- Navigate to the collaboration panel.
- Locate the Due Date displayed at the top of the screen.
- Click the date.
- Select a new target completion date.
This is especially useful when reviewing progress, assigning tasks, or collaborating with team members.
Automatic Reordering #
When a roadmap item’s due date is changed, the system automatically reorders the roadmap item list.
Because roadmap items are typically sorted by due date, changing the date may move the item:
- Higher in the list if it is due sooner
- Lower in the list if it is due later
This helps keep the roadmap organized around upcoming priorities.
Permission Requirements #
To modify a roadmap item’s due date, you must:
- Own the roadmap item, or
- Have edit access to the roadmap item, or
- Have edit access to the initiative containing the roadmap item
If you are unable to edit a due date, contact the initiative owner or your administrator for access.
Best Practice #
Due dates should reflect realistic completion expectations and be updated whenever project timelines change.
Keeping roadmap item dates current helps:
- Improve accountability
- Maintain accurate meeting discussions
- Ensure priorities stay aligned
- Provide better visibility into upcoming work
Accurate due dates make the roadmap a more reliable tool for execution and planning.
