Uploading Initiatives and Roadmap Items #

Propel allows you to quickly upload initiatives, roadmap items, or both at the same time using Excel or Google Sheets templates.

Templates can be found in the written documentation associated with this feature.

Accessing the Upload Tool #

From the Initiatives dashboard, click the three dots in the upper-right corner of the screen.

You will see options to:

• Import from Excel
• Export to Excel
• Copy to Clipboard
• Paste from Clipboard

Both Excel and Google Sheets follow the same process.

Uploading Initiatives #

Starting From Scratch #

If you do not currently have initiatives in your company instance:

1. Download or open the Initiative Template.
2. Enter your initiative information.
3. The only required field is the Initiative Name.
4. All other fields are optional.

Adding to Existing Initiatives #

If initiatives already exist:

1. Export or copy your existing initiatives.
2. Paste them into Excel or Google Sheets.
3. Add new initiatives to the list.
4. Maintain the header row.

Uploading #

1. Copy the completed spreadsheet, including the header row.
2. Return to Propel.
3. Select Paste from Clipboard or Import from Excel.
4. Click Apply Changes.

If an error exists, Propel will identify the spreadsheet row containing the issue so it can be corrected and reuploaded.

Once processing is complete, the new initiatives will appear on the Initiatives dashboard.

Uploading Roadmap Items #

Roadmap items can be uploaded using the same process.

Starting From Scratch #

1. Open the Roadmap Item Template.
2. Enter your roadmap items.
3. The only required field is the Roadmap Item Name.

Template examples may be included and can be removed before uploading.

Adding to Existing Roadmap Items #

1. Export or copy your existing roadmap items.
2. Make additions or edits in Excel or Google Sheets.
3. Reimport the updated file into Propel.

Uploading Initiatives and Roadmap Items Together #

To upload both initiatives and roadmap items simultaneously:

1. Navigate to All Roadmap Items.
2. Use the combined upload template.
3. Complete the required fields:
   • Roadmap Item Name
   • Initiative Name

The Initiative Name tells Propel which initiative the roadmap item belongs to.

After completing the template:

1. Import from Excel or Paste from Clipboard.
2. Click Apply Changes.

Propel will create any new initiatives and associate the roadmap items during the upload process.

Common Upload Errors #

The most common causes of upload errors include:

• Missing required fields
• Deleted header rows
• Invalid formatting
• Data entered in the wrong column

When an error occurs, Propel will identify the row causing the issue so it can be corrected quickly.

Best Practice #

For large planning sessions, annual planning, quarterly planning, or initiative imports from another system, use the upload templates to build initiatives and roadmap items in bulk. This is significantly faster than creating each item individually within the platform.
