Initiative Template Overview

Creating and Managing Initiative Templates #

Initiative Templates allow you to save the structure of projects or initiatives that your organization repeats over time.

Templates can include role placeholders, Roadmap Items, and expected timing, allowing you to quickly recreate a proven project structure without rebuilding it each time.

There are two ways to create an Initiative Template:

  • Build a new template from scratch.
  • Save an existing Initiative as a template.

Create a New Initiative Template #

Navigate to Initiatives → Templates to view templates that have already been created.

To create a new template:

  1. Click Add Template in the upper-right corner.
  2. Enter a name for the template.
  3. Add a tag.
  4. Enter a description.
  5. Add the roles or users involved.
  6. Add the Roadmap Items required to complete the Initiative.
  7. Set the expected timing for each Roadmap Item.
  8. Save the template.

Add Role Placeholders #

Templates allow you to identify the types of people who will participate in the Initiative without requiring you to assign specific individuals.

For example, you might create placeholders for roles such as:

  • Project Lead
  • Finance
  • Marketing
  • Operations

You can also assign specific users when appropriate.

These roles are a starting point. Assign specific individuals when you use the template to create an Initiative.

Build the Roadmap #

Next, add the Roadmap Items required to complete the Initiative.

You can assign each Roadmap Item to a user or leave it unassigned.

You can also establish the expected timing for each Roadmap Item based on when the Initiative begins.

Set Roadmap Item Timing #

Instead of assigning fixed calendar dates, templates allow you to determine when each Roadmap Item should be completed relative to the Initiative’s start.

For example, if an Initiative begins on September 22:

  • A Roadmap Item set for Start + 1 Week should be completed one week after the Initiative begins.
  • A Roadmap Item set for Start + 2 Weeks should be completed two weeks after the Initiative begins.

This lets you reuse the same template at different times while maintaining the intended project sequence and timing.

Create a Template from an Existing Initiative #

If you have already built an Initiative that you expect to repeat, you can save it as a template.

From the Initiative Dashboard:

  1. Find the Initiative you want to use.
  2. Click the three dots on the right-hand side.
  3. Select Save as a Template.
  4. Update the template name if needed.
  5. Add a description explaining when to use the template.
  6. Review the Roadmap Items and their timing.
  7. Click Save as a Template.

This is especially helpful when an existing Initiative already represents a process you want to repeat.

Edit an Initiative Template #

You can update templates after you create them.

Navigate back to Templates, select the appropriate template, and click Edit.

From here, you can:

  • Add or update users and role placeholders.
  • Edit Roadmap Items.
  • Adjust the timing of Roadmap Items.
  • Add additional Roadmap Items.

Initiative Templates make it easier to standardize repeatable projects while still letting you adjust ownership and timing each time you use the Initiative.
