Understanding Firm User Permissions #
The Propel platform includes three firm-level user permission types:
- Firm Admin
- Supervisor
- Advisor (or Consultant)
Each permission level provides different access and responsibilities within the platform.
Understanding these roles is important when setting up your firm and assigning users.
Firm Admin #
Firm Admins have full access to the firm platform.
This role can:
- Configure firm settings
- Manage platform customizations
- Add and manage firm users
- Assign companies to users
- View all companies across the platform
- Access all firm-level functionality
- Manage Health & Value Assessment licenses
Firm Admins can view and modify any advisor or supervisor configuration within the platform.
Because this role provides complete access to the firm platform, we recommend limiting Firm Admin permissions to only those individuals responsible for managing the platform.
Supervisor #
The Supervisor role is designed for team leaders, managers, and department heads.
Supervisors provide oversight of advisors and their client portfolios.
This role allows supervisors to:
- View assigned advisor portfolios
- Monitor advisor activity
- Review company information associated with their team
- Manage and support advisor performance
The Supervisor role helps firms organize advisors into reporting structures while providing visibility into client relationships and portfolio activity.
Advisor #
Advisors (or Consultants) are the firm users who work directly with client companies.
Advisors can:
- Access companies assigned to them
- Work within assigned company instances
- Manage client activities and engagements
- View their personal portfolio of assigned companies
Advisors only see companies that have been assigned to them.
Advisors cannot:
- Add new companies
- Manage firm settings
- Add firm users
- Access companies that have not been assigned to them
Companies must be assigned to advisors by a Firm Admin.
Once assigned, those companies appear within the advisor’s portfolio.
Assigning User Permissions #
When creating a new firm user, you will select one of the three permission levels:
- Firm Admin
- Supervisor
- Advisor
The permission selected determines the user’s access and visibility throughout the platform.
Choose the role that best aligns with the individual’s responsibilities within your organization.
Health & Value Assessment Licenses #
If your firm has access to the Health & Value Assessment module, you will also be asked whether the user should receive a Health & Value Assessment license.
Health & Value Assessment licenses can be assigned to:
- Firm Admins
- Supervisors
- Advisors
When assigning a license, the platform will display the number of remaining licenses available to your firm.
Managing Health & Value Licenses #
Only Firm Admins can assign or remove Health & Value Assessment licenses.
Because these licenses impact your firm’s subscription and licensing costs, Firm Admin access is required to make changes.
Before assigning licenses, verify that the user requires access to the Health & Value Assessment module as part of their role.
Best Practices #
We recommend:
✓ Limiting Firm Admin access to platform administrators
✓ Using Supervisor roles for managers overseeing advisor teams
✓ Assigning Advisors only to the companies they actively support
✓ Reviewing user permissions regularly
✓ Carefully managing Health & Value Assessment licenses to align with usage and subscription levels
Proper permission management helps maintain security, improve visibility, and ensure users have access to the tools they need without unnecessary administrative privileges.
