Foundation: Mission, Vision & Values #
The Foundation section of the Plan module is where you define the core principles that guide your organization. This includes your company’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values.
These foundational elements provide clarity, align your team, and serve as the basis for long-term planning and decision-making.
Accessing the Foundation #
Navigate to:
Plan → Foundation
Here you’ll find editable sections for:
- Vision
- Mission
- Core Values
Customizing Section Names #
If your organization uses different terminology, you can rename any of these sections.
To rename a section:
- Click the three-dot menu beside the section.
- Select Rename.
- Enter your preferred title.
- Save your changes.
Adding Your Vision and Mission #
Simply click into each text area and enter your organization’s:
- Vision — where your organization is headed.
- Mission — why your organization exists and the value it delivers.
Changes can be edited at any time until the plan is locked.
Managing Core Values #
To add a core value:
- Enter the value in the available field.
- Select Add Value to create another entry.
- Repeat until all values have been added.
To remove a value, click the Trash icon next to that entry.
Managing Access #
The Share button in the upper-right corner allows you to control who can view or edit each section of the strategic plan.
Permissions can be managed independently for:
- Foundation
- Strategy
- Performance
- Analysis
- Health
- Value
Default Permissions #
By default:
- Company Admins receive Editor access across all planning sections.
- Company Users receive either Viewer or Hidden access based on their assigned permissions.
- The Foundation section is automatically visible to all Company Users as View Only unless those permissions are changed.
You can adjust these permissions at any time.
Locking Your Foundation #
Once your Vision, Mission, and Core Values have been finalized, you can lock the Foundation section.
Locking the plan helps prevent accidental edits while still allowing team members with viewing permissions to reference it.
If updates are needed later, simply unlock the section, make your changes, and lock it again.
Saving Your Changes #
After updating your Foundation:
- Review your Vision, Mission, and Core Values.
- Click Save in the lower-right corner.
Your Foundation will immediately become available to users based on the permissions you’ve assigned.
Best Practices #
- Keep your Vision focused on your long-term destination.
- Write a Mission statement that clearly explains your organization’s purpose.
- Limit Core Values to the principles your team actively lives by.
- Lock the Foundation once it has been approved to preserve consistency across your strategic planning process.
- Review your Foundation annually as part of your planning process to ensure it continues to reflect your organization’s direction and culture.
A well-defined Foundation creates alignment across the organization and serves as the starting point for every strategic plan built in Propel.
