Customizing Company Fields #
When a new company is added to your platform, information is collected and stored within the company profile. This information is also used throughout the firm portfolio to help organize, filter, and report on client data.
Depending on your platform type, companies are either:
- Added directly by your firm, or
- Invited through a company registration link where they create their own company instance
In both cases, the information collected during company creation is used throughout your portfolio.
Only Firm Admins can customize company fields.
Accessing Company Fields #
Navigate to:
Settings → Company Settings → Company Fields
You will see two tabs:
- Company Fields
- Portfolio Default Columns
This article focuses on Company Fields, which control the information collected when a company is created.
Core Company Fields #
Core Company Fields are standard fields provided by Propel.
Some fields are required and cannot be disabled:
- Company Name
- Status (Active or Inactive)
- Time Zone
Other core fields can be enabled or disabled based on your firm’s needs:
- Industry
- Monthly Recurring Revenue
- Engagement Hours
- Engagement Start Date
If a field is not relevant to your process, simply toggle it off to prevent it from appearing during company creation.
For example, if you do not track engagement start dates, you can disable that field.
Creating Custom Company Fields #
If the information you want to collect is not available in the Core Company Fields section, you can create custom fields.
To create a custom field:
- Navigate to Settings → Company Settings → Company Fields
- Click Add Custom Field
- Select the field type
- Enter the field name
- Add an optional description or supporting text
- Choose whether the field is Active or Inactive
- Decide whether the field is Required
- Click Save
Once saved, the custom field becomes part of the company creation process.
Available Field Types #
Custom fields can be configured using different field types depending on the information you want to collect.
Examples may include:
- Text fields
- Dropdown selections
- Number fields
- Date fields
- Other supported field formats
Select the field type that best matches the information you want companies to provide.
Required vs. Optional Fields #
When creating a custom field, you can choose whether the field is:
Required #
Companies must complete the field before the company profile can be created.
Optional #
Companies can leave the field blank and complete it later if needed.
Use required fields only for information that is essential to your firm’s onboarding, reporting, or advisory process.
How Company Fields Are Used #
The fields you enable become part of the company creation experience.
They will appear when:
- A Firm Admin creates a company
- A company owner creates their own company through an invitation link
The information collected is then stored in the company profile and can be used throughout the platform for reporting, filtering, and portfolio management.

We recommend:

✓ Making essential information required
✓ Using custom fields to track firm-specific data
✓ Reviewing company fields periodically as your processes evolve
✓ Keeping the company creation process as simple as possible
A streamlined company setup experience improves adoption while ensuring your firm collects the information it needs to manage its portfolio effectively.
