Adding Roadmap Items in Propel #

Inside Propel, roadmap items represent the specific actions required to complete an initiative.

Roadmap items are the execution layer underneath an initiative and help teams:

  • organize work
  • assign accountability
  • track deadlines
  • and move strategic priorities forward.

What Is a Roadmap Item? #

An initiative is the high-level priority or project.

A roadmap item is:

  • a specific action
  • milestone
  • deliverable
  • or next step

…required to complete that initiative.

Examples:

  • Build 12-Month Budget
  • Finalize Sales Compensation Plan
  • Create Hiring Process
  • Implement KPI Dashboard

Each roadmap item can:

  • be assigned to a different individual
  • have its own due date
  • contain links and resources
  • and track its own status.

Where Roadmap Items Can Be Added #

There are two places inside Propel where roadmap items can be created.


1. Inside the Initiatives Module #

The most common place to add roadmap items is directly inside the Initiatives module.

To do this:

  1. Open the Initiatives module
  2. Select an initiative
  3. Open the Roadmap Item Dashboard
  4. Click Add Roadmap Item

Here users can enter:

  • roadmap item name
  • description
  • links or supporting information
  • status
  • assigned individual
  • and target end date or due date.

Notifications and Accountability #

Whenever a roadmap item is assigned:

  • the assigned individual is automatically notified inside the software.

This helps improve:

  • visibility
  • accountability
  • and execution follow-through.

Adding Multiple Roadmap Items #

When building larger plans, users can:

  • submit one roadmap item at a time
  • or use Submit and Add Another for rapid entry.

Propel also supports:

  • importing and exporting roadmap items in bulk.

This is especially useful for:

  • annual planning
  • quarterly planning
  • onboarding large projects
  • or uploading initiative templates.

2. Adding Roadmap Items from Meetings #

Roadmap items can also be created directly inside meetings.

Inside a Meeting Series:

  1. Open the Initiatives section of the agenda
  2. Select the initiative
  3. Click Add Roadmap Item

This workflow is useful when:

  • new action items arise during discussion
  • accountability decisions are made live
  • or teams identify next steps during meetings.

The roadmap item can immediately be:

  • assigned
  • dated
  • and connected to the correct initiative.
