User Profiles and & Permissions

Understanding Company User Permissions #

User settings are managed under Company Settings → Users. Only Company Admins have access to these settings.

There are two types of company users in Propel:

  • Company Admin
  • Company User

Company Admins #

Company Admins have access across the entire company instance and can see and edit everything within it.

Because this permission level provides significant access and control, Company Admin permissions should be given sparingly.

Company Users #

Company Users provide more flexibility in determining what an individual can access and manage within Propel.

When setting up a Company User, you can choose whether they have permission to create their own meeting series.

This permission may be appropriate for someone who manages a team, conducts one-on-one meetings, or runs a regular department or team huddle.

Plan Module Permissions #

Additional user permissions are managed within the Plan module.

Different tabs within Plan contain different types of company information. Using the Share settings, you can determine what each Company User can access.

Users can be assigned different levels of access:

  • Editor — Can view and edit the information.
  • Viewer — Can view the information but cannot make changes.
  • Hidden — The tab does not appear for the user.

This allows you to control access to different areas of your company’s plan based on each person’s role.

For more information, see Sharing Permissions in the Plan Module on the Support Desk.

Visibility of Goals and Scorecards #

A common question is whether Company Users can see other people’s goals and scorecards.

Visibility is based on who owns or has been shared on the scorecard.

If an individual is not shared on a specific scorecard, they will not have access to or visibility into that scorecard.

Within each scorecard, you can see the owner as well as the individuals with whom the scorecard has been shared.

Visibility of Initiatives #

Initiatives work similarly.

Each initiative identifies its owner and the individuals with whom it has been shared.

If a Company User is not the owner and has not been shared on the initiative, they will not have visibility into that initiative.

Meeting Series and Permissions #

Access to a meeting does not automatically give someone access to everything that may be associated with that meeting.

Meeting series can include pinned goals, scorecards, and initiatives. Users must have the appropriate access to those individual items in order to view their information.

This means visibility is controlled at multiple levels throughout Propel. A user must have the appropriate access to the meeting series as well as the individual scorecards, goals, or initiatives being used within it.

The Key Principle #

When determining what a Company User can see in Propel, think about sharing and access.

Company Users only see the information they have been given permission to access. This allows you to involve your entire team in Propel while controlling visibility into company plans, scorecards, initiatives, and meetings based on each person’s role and responsibilities.
